Belgaum, Jul 12 : Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today said the BJP Government would hold a Special Karnataka Legislature session in this border district this year.

Speaking at the Platinum Jubilee function of the Kannada daily 'Samyukta Karnataka' here, he said he would hold talks with the Assembly Speaker and fix a suitable date.

Mr Yeddyurappa said the Government was determined to bring fast- paced development of the district and fulfill all the promises made in the BJP manifesto before the recent elections.

He said the city would also be the venue of the World Kannada Conference, which had been delayed for nearly a year. ''We will actively consider holding Vishwa Kannada Sammelana by this December.

All necessary arrangements, including infrastructure development would be made,'' he added.

The Chief Minister said the Government would soon begin the work on a 'Vidhana Soudha' structure here to enable holding of assembly and council sessions on regular basis. ''We will clear all problems regarding the site of the structure,'' he added.

Opposition by BJP leaders, including Suresh Angadi and Prabhakar Kore Parliament members, who opposed building the structure at the 'Vaccine Depot' site, had led to postponment of the construction.

Mr Yeddyurappa said protecting the interest of the farmers was on top of the Government's agenda and it would fulfill all the promises it had made before coming to power.

'My budget to be presented on July 17 will be a farmers' budget, the Chief Minister, who also holds the Finance portfolio said.

Heaping praises on Samyukta Karnataka for upholdig the rich tradition of the print media in the State, Mr Yeddyurappa said, since its inception it had played a major role in shaping the destiny of Karnataka.

It had played an important role in the country's Independence struggle and State's reorganisation. ''Samyukta Karnataka continues to inspire the youth of this land,'' he added.
